Volunteer Your involvement can make a world of difference. Please consider volunteering your time and expertise. Just a few hours a month can be turn around the life of a child. Because we are entirely staffed by dedicated volunteers, we are in constant need of people with a variety of life experiences. We need help in a variety of administrative areas such as: Web developers and network admin, marketing and communications, grant writing and fundraising. But more importantly, we need enthusiastic individuals to bring the work of HOPE to their local communities and get people involved by adopting a HOPE project or hosting a fundraising party. Won't you consider these ideas to get started? Contact us for more information about any of these ideas and we can provide you with educational materials and literature to get you started. Form a church or synagogue group for HOPE - Ask your members to fund a food supplement initiative to bring in dollars to buy vitamins, milk, rice, and beans. - Ask your members to start "talking groups" that meet once a month to plan fundraisers to help the children of Nepal - Ask your members to talk to their children about the difficulties poor children face in Nepal and the needs of children across the world Start a school group - Tell youth here how they can help can make a difference to the children of Nepal - Work with the teachers in your groups to develop teaching modules on Nepal, the Himalayas and world poverty and make learning truly interactive - Put on shows and ask the children to collect for HOPE Get a Meet-Up Going - Put up flyers at your library, church, synagogue, exercise class, grocery, bank, and cleaners - Get a group going to make distribute HOPE literature to friends of their friends - At monthly meetings, discover ways to raise money for HOPE, like bake-offs, quilting auctions, knitting contests, marathons Book Club - Pick a monthly title from our book list relating to Nepal and Asia so members can be informed and spread the word about the desperate need of these people. Many people are just unaware of the crisis in Nepal. Help them know. Help them care. Help them act, through HOPE Cooking/Restaurant club - Get neighborhood groups to sponsor a chili or pasta cook-off - Get neighborhood groups interested in cooking Nepali foods using our simple recipes - Go to Nepali and Asian restaurants in your area and "Double the Tip" by putting the equivalent of the tip into a fund for HOPE - Charge a moderate entry fee above expenses with the money going to feed a family or providing a nourishing meal at holiday times Clean water group - Learn how $50 can buy rehydration salts to stop life-threatening dehydration caused by severe diarrhea - Read about water and sanitation needs in Nepal - Provide pumps and equipment for water wells so that people can drink water free from parasites, free from feces Health and Medicine Group - Set up groups at your clinic, doctors office, hospital to collect money for medicine for malaria, vaccinations, antibiotics to protect children against the deadly diseases of typhus, polio, tetanus, and diphtheria Food Now - Talk to your church, friends, relatives, everyone you know to donate money for food. A child must eat before one can learn and flourish. Volunteering in Nepal For the more adventurous, consider volunteering in Nepal at one of our centers. We can help to arrange your volunteer stay and make your experience memorable. Depending on your individual skills and background, there are many different activities you can undertake. As a grassroots effort, we encourage individuals with motivation and initiative to launch a small program of their own with our logistical support. For example, start a short-term English conversation class for students at one of our Learning centers. English being the language of advancement and opportunity, students are always eager to converse with native speakers and hone their skills. Good knitting skills? Consider implementing a mother's cooperative to knit quality crafts for extra income. The opportunities are endless to share a particular skill or knowledge base you have with others less fortunate. Every volunteer experience is unique, as every volunteer is. Please contact us for more information. |
