HOPE Initiaitve NFP’s
promotion of Fair Trade organizations and principles:
As much as possible, HOPE Initiative seeks to purchase handicrafts
to raise funds for educational programs through accredited Fair Trade
Producer organizations which practice the above listed principles. We
currently work with the following two organizations in Nepal: Mahaguthi –
Craft with a Conscience and Association for Craft Producers. Purchasing
directly from these Fair Trade member organizations ensures that our
handicrafts uphold the ethical and just principles embodied in the fair
trade movement.
We believe that beyond trading with such organizations, we can purchase
directly from various grass roots artisans and producer groups identified
through our programs on the ground in Nepal, who do not have the
wherewithal to be governmentally certified as fair trade. Increasing
employment opportunities where we can, we strive to purchase goods from
the original source and negotiate fair trading terms in line with Fair
Trade principles. This allows us to bring to market a wider range of
handicraft goods with greater appeal to western consumers. With all
proceeds going to fund our programs, we strive to double the impact of
your purchase through providing employment opportunities on the front end
and services for the disadvantaged on the back end.
To learn more about the Fair Trade organizations we work with, please
visit their websites.
Association for Craft Producers is a non profit, non governmental
organization providing design, marketing, management and technical skills
for over a thousand, low income, primarily female craft producers.

Mahaguthi – Craft with a Conscience aims at improving the standards of
living of micro/small producers especially deprived women and groups
through economic empowerment by means of entrepreneurship development,
generating employment opportunities and developing capacities by providing
technical, marketing, financial and counselling supports.

Until the time when HOPE Handicrafts debut on the internet, please
shop the following vendors and support fair trade which dignifies
producers in developing countries.
