HOPE Supplies
Often the biggest obstacles to learning are lacking the necessary
supplies. Too many children are shamed out of the classroom for lack of a
required uniform, notebooks, pencils or textbooks. For poor students who
struggle to stay in school, their lack of supplies combined with the
scarce resources of village schools make learning difficult. Rural schools
almost all uniformly lack the most basic needs: good chalk boards, sturdy
desks and chairs, even teachers and walls in some cases. Certainly not the
appealing classroom and teaching aids we take for granted at home.
Teachers scratch out instruction on badly splintered, weathered wood
painted black. Children sit on dried mud floors. Poor students who cannot
afford notebooks, use a scrap of painted wood and chalk. HOPE works with
local schools to identify critical needs and purchase supplies to create
an effective learning environment.
Some recent gifts included:
• $70 provided basic science lab equipment for a rural secondary
school to allow students to see science in action and test theories they
had only previously been able to read about
• $50 bought pencils and notebooks for 300 children at a village
primary school, many of whom had never had a notebook of their own
• $35 purchased volleyball equipment allowing students to enjoy
sporting activities that support their physical and bodily development and
promote teamwork and cooperation |
