Child Sponsorship: Invest in
HOPE for a child
HOPE Initiative offers our donors the opportunity to sponsor a
child and provide them the lifelong gift of an education. Many families
simply cannot afford the school fees required for public schools. For as
little as $15 a month, you can enroll a child in school, who otherwise be
condemned to a life of illiteracy, back breaking labor and little hope for
a better future. Invest in a child’s dream for a brighter future and grant
them control over their destiny. Your monthly gift provides everything
necessary to your adopted scholar including school fees, uniforms,
stationary and supplies, transportation, medical check-ups and program
mentoring.
Our scholarship/sponsorship programs are targeted towards youths
disadvantaged by gender, ethnicity, caste, homelessness, disability and
poverty. When matching children, we look to the most urgent and desperate
cases, with an eye on supporting girls who are too often left behind to
care for siblings, prepare food, collect firewood and work in the fields.
In 2004, only 28.8% for females are literate compared to 63.8% of men.
Female school attendance in rural areas is appallingly low even as studies
prove that investment in girls education is one of the best methods of
fighting poverty, by empowering them to improve their families’ quality of
life with better nutrition, health care, hygiene, reduced fertility and
infant mortality as well as economic benefits.
What makes our sponsorship program unique is the unprecedented ability to
communicate, connect and create a personal relationship with your
sponsored child and their family. Through our community education centers,
children and their family have access to email and can write directly to
sponsors. In bringing together potential sponsors with under-privileged
children, we welcome any information that can help us better match a child
with your personal and family interests. We encourage you to make
sponsorship a family affair and involve your children to instill the
lifelong principles of compassion and charity.
We also offer the opportunity to sponsor an orphan for only $40 a month.
For the price of your phone bill, you can give new life to a devestated
child who has lost everything to violence and war, providing them with
food, shelter, clothing, education and a loving environment. As the
ongoing Maoist insurgency continues, violence from both sides has claimed
the lives of over 14,000 Nepalese, and orphaned some 8,000 children. With
Nepal topping Amnesty International's list of most disappearances in the
world in 2005, parents are taken by force in the middle of the night,
brutally traumatizing children who are left to fend for themselves and
their siblings. More children than ever before have lost one or both
parents to the conflict, and with little other support, find themselves
enslaved in stone quarries, circuses, carpet factories, brothels, in rich
homes as domestic workers, or on the streets begging. It takes so little
to give them a future. And with a sponsor, these children know that
someone, somewhere cares for them. Your relationship with your child is as
personal as you would like. We encourage letter writing and emailing. We
provide frequent updates and photos. And of course, you are most welcome
to come to Nepal and stay with us at HOPE House. You play a central
role in these children’s lives and will be able to monitor their progress,
communicate with them and get involved and invested in their success.
